Age and multimorbidities as poor prognostic factors for COVID-19 in hemodialysis: a Lebanese national study

Abstract Background Hemodialysis patients with COVID-19 have been reported to be at higher risk for death than the general population. Several prognostic factors identified in studies from Asian, European or American countries. This is first national Lebanese study assessing associated SARS-CoV-2 mortality hemodialysis patients. Methods an observational that included all chronic Lebanon who were tested positive 31st March 1st November 2020. Data on demographics, comorbidities, admission hospital and outcome collected retrospectively patients’ medical records. A binary logistic regression analysis was performed assess mortality. Results total of 231 included. Mean age 61.46 ± 13.99 years a sex ratio 128 males 103 females. Around half diabetics, 79.2% presented fever. 115 admitted hospital, 59% them within day diagnosis. Hypoxia major reason hospitalization. Death rate 23.8% after median duration 6 (IQR, 2 10) days. Adjusted showed among older (odds = 1.038; 95% confidence interval: 1.013, 1.065), heart failure 4.42; 2.06, 9.49), coronary artery disease 3.27; 1.69, 6.30), multimorbidities 1.593; 1.247, 2.036), fever 6.66; 1.94, 27.81), CRP above 100 mg/L 4.76; 1.48, 15.30), pneumonia 19.18; 6.47, 56.83). Conclusions age, disease, failure, multimorbidities, as hemodialysis. The comparable other countries estimated 23.8%.
